Route: Santa Barbara
Starting off with a short one. A mere 10 miles, the North San Marcos Road is not only best way to avoid traffic on the 101, but it is also one of the most stunning drives. First, follow signs to the 154 out of Santa Barbara. Although only 10 miles, it’ll take approximately half an hour from start to finish. If you get the chance, take this drive.

To the redwoods: Route 128

Route: Calistoga to Albion
The length of the whole drive is about 100 miles. Begin your journey ins Calistoga (three hours north of SFO). Then, hop on Route 128 over the freeway to steer clear of highway mania and into driving serenity. The journey to go and see the redwoods is well worth it.

The enlightened path: Palomar Mountain Road

Route: Palomar Mountain Loop
Depending on when you hop on, the total length of this drive is anywhere between 25-40 miles. Palomar Mountain Road is not overly easy to access.
