Best of West Coast Small Towns

California: San Luis Obispo

Population: 46,730
The scenery here is unreal. There are almost no words. It is nestled in the hills of California’s Central Coast. From here, you can visit Hearst Castle, Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, Morro Bay, and wine country. SLO has a buzzing arts scene as well. Stroll around the Spanish-colonial Mission Plaza and gaze at all the high-end galleries. For the outdoorsy ones, there’s plenty of hiking and biking trails to take advantage of. Also, the coastline. It’ll leave you breathless.

Nevada: Elko

Population: 18,297
Elko has everything we love about desert scapes. The sandy plateau, the red mountains behind. It is a different type of serenity here. Also, Elko is all about the arts. From the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering to artisans hawking crafts, and paintings. You can expect to have your artistic soul appeased here.

Oregon: Hood River

Population: 7,476
With the smallest population on our list, Hood River is one of the most breathtaking natural areas in the West. There is plenty to do here, as it is the kitesurfing capital of USA. Also, make sure to visit the Fruit Loop, which is Hood River’s vast sea of orchard’s. And of course, don’t forget to indulge in some of the finest home made brews here. Oregon is known to have some of the best beer for a reason.
